The Space from Low Mood programme has been designed to relieve the symptoms of low mood in young people by:
- Focusing on developing more flexible ways of thinking
- Increasing awareness and understanding of emotions
- Understanding their mood, as well as their triggers
Who is the programme best suited for?
The programme has been designed to be used by young people, ages 15-18.
How does it work?
The Space from Low Mood programme gives users a better understanding of the connection between their thoughts, feelings and behaviours, with tools that can improve problems in each of these areas.
The programme consists of 6 modules whose structure and content follow evidence-based principles of traditional, face-to-face, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. The contents of each module are briefly described in the table below.
Understanding Low Mood |
This module aims to improve the young person's understanding of low mood while introducing them to the concept of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and the CBT cycle. |
Noticing Feelings |
In this module, young people explore the different aspects of emotions and physical reactions, and how they are all connected. |
Boosting Behaviour |
This module will help young people identify ways to motivate themselves to participate in pleasurable activities and tackle unpleasant physical feelings associated with low mood. |
Spotting Thoughts |
‘Spotting Thoughts’ focuses on the ‘thoughts’ component of the CBT cycle and introduces the client to negative thinking and its impact on symptoms of low mood. |
Challenging Thoughts |
This module focuses on taking action against negative thoughts and thinking traps. The young person is introduced to Hot Thoughts and their impact on low mood. This module helps the user to tackle overly negative thinking patterns using cognitive restructuring techniques. |
Bringing it all Together |
In this final module, young people are given the opportunity to explore how they can bring together all the skills they have learned throughout the programme and plan for staying well in the future. |
